When service becomes self – discovery
Beyond book journey at NSS Camp
Participating in the 7-day NSS Special camp at Ammapalayam and Ganesampudhur villages was one of the most meaningful experiences of my college life. More than a camp it was a journey that helped me discover the power of small actions and the joy of giving back. We began the camp with inauguration and village mapping, which helped us connect with the community and understand their needs. As the days unfolded, our activities ranged from cleaning drives and health awareness programs for school children and training programs for women. I enjoyed interacting with the school children, conducting fun sessions, teaching them good and bad touch, watching their curious eyes light up. One of the most peaceful moments for me was on Day 6, during the yoga session conducted by Mrs. Jayanthi. Watching the villagers, especially the children, perform yoga with such
enthusiasm made me feel deeply connected to the cause. Later that day, planting trees in the school premises gave me a sense of contribution to something that will grow even after we leave. Our
cultural evening brought everyone together in laughter, music and shared joy. Standing there,
surrounded by villagers and fellow volunteers, I felt proud not just of what we did, but of who we were becoming.
This camp taught me leadership, teamwork, empathy and most importantly, how meaningful it is to serve wholeheartedly. I didn’t just return with memories, I came back more grounded, more aware, and more grateful. NSS didn’t just happen for a week it stays with me for life.
“Not Me, But You” – I truly found its meaning in the camp.
